National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Private Limited (NHPC), a state-owned power producer has entered into an agreement with the Maharashtra government, to construct pumped storage hydro projects with a combined capacity of 7,350 MW. The project requires an investment of INR 44,000 Crore.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), four pumped storage projects will be developed, totaling a capacity of 7,350 MW. These projects include Kalu (1,150 MW), Savitri (2,250 MW), Jalond (2,400 MW), and Kengadi (1,550 MW). Additionally, the agreement also entails the development of other renewable energy projects within the state.
These pumped storage projects will serve as energy storage solutions to support the national objective of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030 and attaining net-zero emissions by 2070.
