NISER Campus at Bhubaneswar to get Cancer Hospital

A Cancer Hospital is coming up at the Bhubaneswar campus of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER).

Bhubaneswar: Tata Trusts is collaborating with the administrative department of NISER, the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) for constructing this Cancer Hospital. Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, quoted. They discussed this proposal during a meeting between Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh. Also attending this meeting were Bhubaneswar MP Smt. Aparajita Sarangi and senior officials from the Tata Trusts.

Project Details

This proposed cancer hospital will come up on a 17 acre plot of land that they will share with the NISER campus. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will allot another 20 acres of land close to the NISER campus as well. They estimate the project cost of the cancer hospital to be INR 650 crores. The central government’s share of this INR 650 crores will be INR 400 crores. The Tata Trusts will provide the remaining funds (INR 250 crores). The project has an estimated commissioning time frame of 3 years.

Tata Trusts will construct the cancer hospital, post which they will transfer the hospital to the Central Government. The Central Government will be responsible for the operations and management of the cancer hospital. The project proposal also includes the construction of a Skill Development Centre for the employees of the cancer hospital. This centre will aid the employees to further upskill themselves.
