Ola, the electric vehicle company, has started constructing its 100 GWh (GigaWatt hours) gigafactory at its manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company has installed the first pillar of its cell factory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
In February, Ola and the Tamil Nadu government signed a memorandum of understanding, committing to investments of INR 7,614 Crore for manufacturing electric cars, two-wheelers, and lithium cell gigafactories in the state.
Covering an area of 115 Acres, the Ola Gigafactory is projected to begin operations by early next year, starting with an initial capacity of 5 GWh. The capacity will be gradually increased in phases, eventually reaching 100 GWh. Once fully operational, the factory is expected to be one of the largest cell manufacturing facilities in the world.
