Shreeji Krupa Projects Limited will build the Paika Bidroha Battlefield Memorial on 9.68 acres of land provided by the State Government to the Ministry of Culture in Khurda, Odisha. There would be no premium, capitalisation value, or additional fees associated with the land distribution.
The Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik presided over the Cabinet, which accepted 17 recommendations pertaining to various sectors. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Niranjan Pujari, presented the Cabinet’s choices to the House.
The Odisha Government waived INR 31.97 crore in land costs so that the Ministry of Culture may build a memorial that would promote tourism and benefit researchers and historians.
The Cabinet also approved a plan to spend INR 135.60 crore on building a Dharmshala in the Baselisahi neighbourhood of Puri.
Shreeji Krupa Projects Limited, chosen through a bidding process, will carry out the project. They will do this under the Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) plan. The expected timeframe for the project is 24 months.
The Paika Bidroha Memorial
The Paikas were a traditional landowner militia. They revolted against the British East India Company when they took possession of their rent-free property 14 years after the British East India Company began ruling Odisha in 1803 in one of the first violent conflicts against the Company. In December 2018, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi spoke at a public gathering at the same place. Shri Arun Jaitley, the then-Union Finance Minister, had pledged to honour the rebellion in his budget address in 2017–2018.
