PepsiCo India to invest INR 778 Crore to set up food manufacturing plant in Assam

On Wednesday, September 6, PepsiCo India, a food and beverage company, announced its plan to invest INR 778 Crore in establishing its inaugural food-centric manufacturing plant in Assam, facilitating market access to the northeastern region. 

The manufacturing facility, spanning 44.2 acres in Nalbari, is scheduled for operation in 2025 and is expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for 500 individuals.

PepsiCo India will support farmers in the area by employing state-of-the-art technology, high-quality seeds, and cost-effective machinery to manufacture its renowned Lays crisps brand. According to a company statement, the plant will also generate demand for 60,000 tonnes of cold storage capacity in the coming years.

PepsiCo India has also entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with theAssam Skill Development Mission and Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training to improve women’s employability in the region.
