Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced that construction on the Chennai Port to Maduravoyal elevated corridor will begin within a month. The project’s initial estimated cost was INR 3,204 Crore, but it was later revised to INR 5,721.33 Crore as the elevated corridor underwent redesign to incorporate a double-decker structure.

The corridor spans a total length of 20.565 kilometers, with a specific section between Chennai Port and Koyambedu designated as a double-decker to accommodate heavy vehicles bound for the Port.
