Rain CII Carbon (Vizag) Ltd, a subsidiary of Rain Carbon Inc (RAIN), has announced plans to set up a new coal tar distillation facility in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed project will be located in the Andhra Pradesh Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in Anakapalli.

The Rain Coal Tar Distillation Facility will be developed in a phased manner. Phase I of the project is expected to commence in the second half of 2025 and will have an annual capacity of approximately 50,000 metric tons (MT) of pitch. This phase will target the Indian graphite, battery, and aluminum markets. The estimated investment for this phase is around 5 USD-Million.

Phase II will involve the deployment of Rain Carbon’s modular distillation technology, with an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 MT per year. This phase will leverage domestic Indian coal tar and petroleum feedstocks, supplemented by imported materials.

RAIN has obtained the required approvals, including environmental clearances, ensuring that the facility meets sustainability standards. Moreover, it will upgrade pitch and process byproducts from upcoming steel projects in the region, crucial for India’s burgeoning graphite battery industries.
