The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is set to establish a state-of-the-art steel plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, with an estimated investment of INR 36,000 Crore.
SAIL’s new plant, situated adjacent to the current IISCO Steel Plant, will boast a production capacity of 4.08 Million tonnes. The new plant is likely to start operations by 2029 and will replace an old facility at the construction site.

SAIL is also selecting a vendor to execute the project and aims to finalize the partner by the end of October before obtaining secondary board approval. As part of its strategic strategy, SAIL plans to increase its total production capacity from 20 Million tonnes to 35 Million tonnes by 2031, with a total investment of INR 110,000 Crore.
