Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd, a leading integrated metal producer, has announced its entry into the wagon manufacturing sector. The company will establish a state-of-the-art greenfield facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal, under its step-down subsidiary, Ramsarup Industries Ltd. Operations are set to begin by March 2026.
The facility will be developed in two phases to ensure scalability and efficiency. In Phase I, it will produce 2,400 wagons annually, roughly 8 wagons per day. Additionally, Phase II will double this capacity to 4,800 wagons per year. The plant will manufacture a diverse range of rolling stock, including flat, open, box, hopper-covered, tank, and specialized wagons. Furthermore, the advanced setup will prioritize operational efficiency, positioning Shyam Metalics as a key player in the wagon manufacturing industry.
