Six laning of the Mandi Dabwali-Chautala section of NH-54 to be undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The proposed project includes the six laning of the Mandi Dabwali (Punjab/Haryana border)—Chautala road section from the proposed Mandi Dabwali Bypass to Chautala of NH-54. This will be under the Bharatmala Pariyojna, designed in the State of Haryana under Hybrid Annuity Model Highway. The total length of the highway to be covered is 34.80 km. The NHAI is partnering with VRC Constructions (India) Private Limited on this project in a Public-Private Partnership.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
An act of the Parliament, NHAI Act, 1988 set the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) up. The NHAI Act is “An Act to provide for the constitution of an Authority for the development, maintenance, and management of national highways and for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto”. They have entrusted it with the National Highways Development Project, which, along with other minor projects, has vested in it 50,329 kms., of National Highways for development, maintenance, and management. Their aim is to ensure that all contract awards and procurement conform to the best industry practices regarding transparency of process. Other objectives include adopting a bid criteria to ensure healthy competition in award of contracts, implementation of projects conform to the best quality requirements and the highway system is maintained to ensure the best user comfort and convenience.
