Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is gearing up for its 75th-anniversary celebrations with a slew of ambitious projects, as revealed by Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi during an interaction with journalists from the Pune Union of Working Journalists.
One notable initiative is the construction of a substantial hostel on the SPPU campus, capable of accommodating 1,000 students of both genders. This construction is expected to be finalized within 18 months. To address the existing food challenges faced by students, a modern steam-based central kitchen is in the pipeline to efficiently serve a large number of students simultaneously.
The institution is set to establish multidisciplinary schools at its sub-centers in Ahmednagar and Nashik, catering to the local students’ educational needs.
SPPU’s proposed projects encompass a wide range of endeavors, including the creation of a Research Assistance Centre, the establishment of a centralized procurement and tender system, and the formation of a dedicated cell to support specially-abled (Divyang) students. There will also be a distinct center dedicated to developing Marathi syllabi, alongside efforts to restore the Academic Calendar.
