SCB Medical College and Hospital is one of the biggest and oldest hospitals in India. The hospital, established during the pre-independence era, is still going strong. It serves the people of Odisha and those from other states by offering free medical care to everyone. The medical college and the hospital are going under renovation, looked over by the Government of Odisha Works Department and Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Limited. The project is in collaboration with AECOM India Private Limited, Cengrs Geotechnica Private Limited, Visiontek Consultancy Services Private Limited, L&T Constructions, and NCC Limited. At present, the project is under construction with ongoing pile work for the institution.
The redevelopment of the SCB Medical College and Hospital campus spreads over 175 acres and is in 2 phases. These 2 phases comprise several blocks, including a hospital block which has 3000 beds, an academic and research block, and super speciality research labs. The student block includes lecture theatres, an auditorium, an under-graduate hostel, an intern hostel, an SRD hostel, a postgraduate hostel, and multi-level car parking. Phase 1 of the proposed project includes the construction of residential accommodation occupying 22.98 acres of site area. Phase 1 has two parts.
Phase 1 Part A comprises residential type V and VI that are for assistant professors and professors. These have 1 tower, 1 basement, stilt floor, 12 upper floors and a club on a terrace. There are three towers, 1 basement, and 12 upper floors in type IV for special-assistant professors. Type I for staff comprises 2 towers with stilt floors, and 12 upper floors. The amenities comprise a community centre, a ground floor and one upper floor. Type II for staff includes 6 towers with basements, stilt floors, 12 floors, and a community centre on the terrace of 2 towers.
Phase 1 Part A also includes clinical blocks and utilities. Clinical blocks CN-1, CN-2, CN-3, CN-4 each have a basement floor, ground floor and 9 upper floors. Utility Block 1 comprises a basement floor, a ground floor, and one upper floor. Utility Block 2 comprises a basement floor and ground floor. Part B contains miscellaneous structures like a town centre which has a ground floor, guard huts, and entrance gates.
Part B of the proposed project includes 2 types of hostels. Type A is a boys’ hostel with 2 towers each having a basement, a stilt floor, and 12 floors. Type B is a girls’ hostel which has 2 towers, a basement, a stilt floor, and 12 upper floors. Phase 1 of the project includes construction of clinical blocks and allied infrastructure work.
