Dubai-based DP World has won the tender for the development of an INR 4,243 crore mega container terminal at Tuna-Tekra at Deendayal Port (formerly Kandla Port).
Hindustan Ports Pvt Ltd., the Indian arm of DP World Ltd., won the contract to construct the 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) capacity container port at the satellite facility of Tuna-Tekra after defeating Adani Group’s Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ).
The new facility is around 15 kilometers from the Kandla port, which started handling container cargo in October 1981. The project entails building an offshore berthing facility that can accommodate three vessels at once.
DP World will be responsible for the design, engineering, financing, procurement, implementation, commissioning, operation, management, and maintenance of the project for a period of 30 years.
