UltraTech Cement commits 13,000 INR-Crore investment in Capacity expansion

The Board of Directors of UltraTech Cement on Saturday, October 28, approved the third phase of expansion at an investment of 13,000 INR-Crore. The company will use this capital towards increasing the capacity by an additional 21.9 MTPA (Million Tonnes per Annum) through a mix of brownfield and greenfield projects.

The company will prioritize factors like green energy, reducing carbon emissions, and reinforcing its global cement production leadership. The capacity expansion involves – the addition of a 39 MW Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) worth approximately 453 INR-Crore and alternative fuel funding and handling equipment worth approximately 180 INR-Crore.

By the end of 2027, UltraTech aims to use green energy over 60% supported by a total WHRS capacity of more than 400 MW along with approximately 1.5 GW of renewable energy. Additionally, the company will also set up four Greenfield plants, four brownfield plants, and four greenfield bulk terminals. 

The company will not invest in thermal power capacity to reduce its carbon emissions. The commercial production from these new capacities is expected to begin in a phased manner from FY26 and will increase the company’s cement capacity to 187 mtpa globally.
