Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) is coming up with a Hydroelectric power project with a capacity of 24 MW. The project is in the West Karbi Anglong District of Assam near Borpani, Moriento. The tender is in the opening phase for financial bid assessment as of July 2022.
Karbi Langpi Hydroelectric Project is in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong District, about 125 kilometres from Guwahati. It involves building a concrete gravity dam with gated spillways on the Karbi Langpi near Hatedubi, diverting river flow through a 4430 m long, 4.20 m diameter horseshoe tunnel to the powerhouse, generating 250MW of electricity.
This power plant will begin construction in 2022 and be completed by 2026. A cost of about INR 216 crore will be associated with this project.

State Power Sector Reform Programme created Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) after the unbundling of Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) in December 2004 through the provision of the Electricity Act 2003. They obtained the certificate of commencement of business with effect from 29th April 2004. They implemented the final transfer scheme in August 2005 with a new company balance sheet, w.e.f. April 2005. The company handles maximum energy generation to meet the energy demand of the state.
