The redevelopment work at Varkala Sivagiri railway station has officially commenced. This project, a part of the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, is being executed by various agencies contracted by the joint venture of Kerala Rail Development Corporation Ltd (KRDCL) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The JV secured the redevelopment contract in December 2023.
The Varkala Sivagiri railway station has an estimated project cost of INR 123.36 Crore. The project’s initial development work is advancing rapidly with an expected completion period of 30 months. The project envisages the development of airport-like facilities with separate arrival and departure corridors. The main station building spreads over an anticipated 9,944 SqM and features enhanced passenger facilities, with striking interiors and an overall improved experience.
