VIJAYAWADA: The Centre has approved the expansion of the existing four-lane Vijayawada-Machilipatnam National Highway (NH-65) to a six-lane road, marking a significant boost to infrastructure development.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is currently preparing a detailed project report (DPR) to finalize the total project cost, with plans to commence the construction within the next four months. The aim is to have the six-lane highway completed concurrently with the construction of the Machilipatnam port.

KDM Infra has been appointed by NHAI to develop the DPR for the 67-km-long highway project. They have been tasked with completing the report in a span of three months. Additionally, NHAI is making arrangements to acquire land that could potentially accommodate an eight-lane expansion in the future, ensuring that a land bank is prepared. Despite the expected increase in costs, NHAI’s intention is to minimize potential legal disputes and delays down the line. Notably, the railway ministry has granted approval for a new freight loading station at the port.
