Founded by Jagan Venkataramanan, formerly a senior partner at Venkataramanan Associates, V+S Design Partners specializes in BIM (Building Information Modeling) and VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) solutions. The team’s senior executives’ combined experience and expertise further propel the mission of providing hassle-free assistance in construction technology. Intending to revolutionize the Indian AEC’s technological prowess, V+S call themselves orchestrators of design.
“Our job is similar to the conductor of a symphony orchestra. The conductor understands each musical instrument thoroughly. He knows when, how, and by which instrumentalists the symphony needs to be played. There are exact timings to let musical phrases enter and exit a composition. Sometimes the same music is played together in musical parlance, sometimes one has to play melodically, or sometimes everyone has to play harmonically. Without a competent music conductor, we can imagine what can happen to a symphony orchestra. Similarly, in the A/E/C industry, there is a precise sequencing of works, and sometimes works happen parallelly. We consider ourselves as the ‘conductor’ of this ‘design and construction symphony.’ The role of the ‘conductor’ who wears many hats like a BIM coordinator and manager is an important role which we are well qualified to play, “Jagan Venkataramanan explains.
The core team at V+S design partners has vast experience – ranging from on-site escapades to expertise handling large-scale projects. Further, they have partnered with specialists of various domains who can turn visions into reality with ease. The plan is to eventually productize some of the common solutions and write custom software for A/E/C firms.
The CDE and hybrid working approach allow us to hire talent and work with clients from any part of the world. In addition, there are software tools that can audit the BIM model for clashes, extract quantities, and be used for cost tracking and time management via linking to popular project management software.
Each project is unique and comes with its characteristic challenges. As a practice at V+S Design Partners, the team tries to add an extra element not asked for by the client. The team believes that they are their own competitor. They see their workplace as a playground for innovation and aim to add value to clients’ work.
With the onset of the pandemic and rapid rise in remote working scenarios, the importance of BIM and other technological tools is being widely realized. “We had always believed in working from anywhere. The concept of working in a central model with linked files is how collaboration for large projects is brought about. In such cases, the projects and relational databases reside in a CDE (Common Desktop Environment). There has been a definite shift in the emphasis laid on collaborating more efficiently using BIM tools. Companies who have not invested in central CDE and work-from-home solutions suffer due to meeting quality and unmet delivery timelines. The CDE and hybrid working approach allow us to hire talent and work with clients from any part of the world. In addition, there are software tools that can audit the BIM model for clashes, extract quantities, and be used for cost tracking and time management via linking to popular project management software. We are also seeing an increase in the use of BIM models and other computer-aided facility management software platforms”, the founder enlightens.
“Improving the status quo of existing workflows in the AEC industry, keeping sustainability in mind, is what makes us get out of our beds every morning. There is a lot of work in revolutionizing antiquated methods of working using legacy systems. The task of transferring the trusted brick-and-mortar process onto a technological interface and training and mentoring the younger generation is the need of the hour. According to us, in roughly another ten years, a very high percentage of the world AEC fraternity will use BIM-based workflows. Several countries have made it mandatory for all government submissions to use these reliable methods.
Each project is unique and comes with its characteristic challenges. As a practice at V+S Design Partners, the team tries to add an extra element not asked for by the client.
In India, the use of BIM-based workflows has seen implementation in all major infrastructure projects in aviation, roads, and rail networks, and is catching up rapidly in the building and facility creation and smart cities programs as well”, Jagan Venkataramanan concludes with heavy optimism.
