Yamaha to invest 180 INR-Crore to expand its TN factory

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has announced plans to expand two-wheeler production at its factory near Chennai, TN. The Japan-based company submitted a pre-feasibility report, requesting environmental clearance for the project. 

With an estimated investment of 180 INR-Crore, this expansion will generate over 400 new job opportunities. Under this expansion, IYM will upgrade its existing Vallam Vadagal facility spanning nearly 111 Acres. The proposed Yamaha factory in TN will include new facilities capable of producing 35,000 motorcycles and 45,000 scooters monthly.

The plant’s size will also grow from 1.5 Lakh-SqM to 1.7 Lakh-SqM. Yamaha Motors has already invested 1,789 INR-Crore in the Vallam Vadal operations, and with the projected expansion, the total investment is expected to increase to 1,969 INR-Crore. This further highlights IYM’s ambition to meet the rising demand for two-wheelers while strengthening its manufacturing footprint in India.
