BANGALORE – The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) would soon be further developed into an airport city, which would include convention centres, business parks and hotels across a 530-acre space.

The airport is owned and operated by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), a public-private consortium who has issued a Request For Proposal (RFP) to develop plans for the aerotropolis.

“BIAL has published an RFP to identify property consultants to assist in the evaluation of certain asset classes, as part of the future expansion of the airport. The plans are currently at a very nascent stage,” said a BIAL spokesperson.

The project is envisioned to be an urban entity with a business park, prime offices, conference centres, hotels, shopping complexes, restaurants and entertainment zones. The aerotropolis would also include a high-speed rail link that connects the airport to Bangalore’s city centre.

Earlier, it was announced that KIA will have a concert and experience arena by 2022. The venue is set to host multi-genre events including conferences, concerts, theatrical extravaganzas, and sports events.
