Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Tuesday, February 27, virtually laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Barabati Cricket Stadium at Cuttack into a world-class sports complex. The government has earmarked an estimated budget of INR 700 Crore for this project.
The Barabati Cricket Stadium is being developed in a joint partnership between the Odisha Government, the Odisha Olympics Association (OCA), and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The project envisages constructing a world-class sports complex with all modern facilities and increasing the stadium’s current capacity from 42,000 to 60,000 spectators at a time. OCA has prepared the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the complex.

Barabari Cricket Stadium will also be presented with an iconic clock tower as a heritage structure to represent the stadium’s legacy. Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated 41 cricket academies in 30 districts across the state. These projects are aimed at maximizing Odisha’s sports legacy to its full potential.
