Construction of INR 1,734 Crore Shimla Ropeway Project to begin in 2025

The construction of the Shimla Ropeway Project, the world’s second-largest, will begin on March 1, 2025. Sprawling an anticipated 13.79 Km, this project aims to decongest the state capital, Shimla. 

Covering a 60 Km area, the Shimla Ropeway Project costs an estimated INR 1,734 Crore. The route, featuring 15 stations, includes the Monal Line, Deodar Line, and Apple Line. Initially, it will transport 2,000 people per hour, increasing to 6,000 for two-way travel by 2059.

The Shimla Ropeway Project has identified 13 boarding stations along its route: Taradevi, Judicial Complex, Chakkar, Tutikandi, New ISBT, Railway Station, Old ISBT, Lift, Chhota Shimla, Navbahar, Sanjauli, IGMC, Lakkar Bazaar, and 103 Tunnel. This project will directly employ 250 people and indirectly employ over 20,000. Furthermore, this grand venture is poised to be a milestone, promising to enhance Shimla’s charm and accessibility.
