On Monday, September 23, Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud laid the foundation stone for the new Bombay High Court complex in Bandra East. The complex will span nearly 30 Acres in the Kherwadi government colony. Stones from the existing high court in South Mumbai will be part of its foundation.
The Public Works Department has already floated a global tender to design the new court complex. It will feature courtrooms, chambers for judges, and facilities for registry personnel. Additionally, there will be an arbitration and mediation center, a library, an auditorium, and various amenities for staff, lawyers, and litigants. Moreover, the upcoming high court complex in Bandra will house 75 courtrooms, residences for junior judges, staff quarters, bar rooms, canteens, and ample parking. It will also include stationery shops and computer centers to support daily operations.

Due to its proximity to the airport, the state-of-the-art facility is projected to be no taller than 16 stories or 70 meters. This new high court complex is part of a larger redevelopment plan for the 89.75 Acres Bandra government colony. The State Government, in partnership with South Korea’s Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCH), has outlined this project. Furthermore, approximately 13.73 Acres of the site will be handed over by March 2025, with the remaining land to follow by March 2026.
