Dholera International Airport is an under-construction greenfield airport, being built near Navagam in the Dholera taluka of the Ahmedabad district.

Project Overview:

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is actively developing the Dholera International Airport, a flagship project in India’s aviation sector. This greenfield airport is being developed in phases at a total estimated cost of 1,305 INR-Crore. Located 80 Km from Ahmedabad and 20 Km from Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), it is strategically positioned for optimal connectivity. 

The airport will span an anticipated 1,426 Hectares of land and once operational, it will likely have an annual capacity of 50 million passengers. Post commencement, it is projected to function as a major cargo hub for the industrial and surrounding regions, second only to Ahmedabad Airport. 

This mega project’s work has been divided and awarded to two contractors: Varaha Infra Ltd and Yashnand Engineers and Contractors Pvt Ltd. The overall Phase 1 of the Dholera International Airport is expected to be completed by March 2026. 

Part A

Dholera International Airport envisages the development of two runways – one 3,200 Meters long and the other extending to 4,000 Meters. It will handle future traffic and accommodate large aircraft such as 4E category planes, supporting international carriers and business travelers. Additionally, the development includes a parallel taxiway, Apron, and commercial amenities like hotels and shops. With an estimated construction cost of 636 INR-Crore for Part A, the construction area is 406,875 SqFt. Moreover, Varaha Infra Ltd has been appointed as the civil works contractor for this part of the project. 

As of September 2024, the foundation work is nearly completed and structural work has begun on some of the structures on site.

Part B

This part of the Dholera International Airport, awarded to Yashnand Engineers and Contractors Pvt Ltd will span an anticipated 20,000 SqM. Additionally, it will feature a new integrated passenger terminal building having a basement and a G+1 floor. The mega project also includes a technical block, an ATC (Air Traffic Control) Tower, a cargo complex, and an Electrical Substation. This part of the airport has an estimated construction cost of 333 INR-Crore

As of September 2024, the structural work is advancing steadily, with 25% of the overall progress now completed.
