In a significant boost to Bihar’s healthcare and infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga on November 13, 2024. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth nearly 12,000 INR-Crore.
This initiative is part of a broader development plan aimed at transforming the state’s infrastructure and healthcare system.
AIIMS Darbhanga:
The new AIIMS in Darbhanga, with an estimated cost of 1,260 INR-Crore, will feature a super-specialty hospital, an AYUSH block, a medical college, a nursing college, night shelters, and residential facilities. This facility is expected to provide advanced healthcare services to residents of Bihar and neighboring regions.

During his visit to Bihar, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects across various sectors:
- National Highway Projects: Worth around 5,070 INR-Crore. These projects include the construction of new roads, bypasses, and bridges to improve connectivity within the state. Additionally, the PM inaugurated the 4-lane Galgalia-Araria section of NH-327E.
The foundation stone was laid for –- A two-lane road with paved shoulders from Ramnagar to Rosera
- Bihar-West Bengal border to the Manihari section of NH-131A
- Hajipur to Bachhwara via Mahnar and Mohiuddin Nagar
- Sarwan-Chakai section
- Raniganj Bypass on NH-327E
- Katoria, Lakhpura, Banka and Panjwara bypasses on NH-333A
- And a four-lane link road from NH-82 to NH-33
- Railway Projects: With an investment of over 1,740 INR-Crore, these projects aim to enhance regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion at key junctions.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Sonenagar Bypass Railway line from Chiralapothu to Bagha Bishunpur in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. This project is worth over 220 INR-Crore.
He also dedicated railway projects worth nearly 1,520 INR-Crore. These include –- The gauge conversion of the Jhanjharpur-Laukaha Bazar Rail section
- The Darbhanga Bypass Railway Line, aimed at easing out railway traffic congestion at Darbhanga Junction.
- Petroleum and Natural Gas Initiatives: Projects worth 4,020 INR-Crore were launched to develop a City Gas Distribution network and other facilities, promoting clean energy options.
