The Indian Government on Tuesday, January 7 unveiled two transformative capacity expansion projects at Kandla Port. Together, these initiatives have an estimated investment of over 57,000 INR-Crore, propelling India’s maritime sector forward.
The first project, valued at an estimated 30,000 INR-Crore, focuses on creating a Mega Shipbuilding Facility. This facility will cover an anticipated 8,000 Acres and produce 32 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) annually, each with a capacity of up to 3,20,000 DWT. Additionally, it will repair 50 ships yearly while housing a marina, a fishing harbour, and a marine industrial cluster, adding remarkable versatility to Kandla Port’s offerings.

The second initiative involves an estimated 27,000 INR-Crore cargo terminal outside Kandla Creek near Tuna. Furthermore, using a 6 Km waterfront, this terminal will add around 135 MTPA to the port’s capacity. It will feature cutting-edge equipment and advanced evacuation systems, ensuring faster and more efficient handling of dry bulk cargo.
The Kandla Port expansion projects symbolize India’s commitment to strengthening its maritime infrastructure. Moreover, they will not only elevate trade operations but also position Kandla Port as a key player in global shipping.
