Assam: Silchar Medical College to receive 500 bedded Emergency Hospital

The Government of Assam through the Public Works Department has planned to construct a 500 bedded emergency hospital in Silchar Medical College & Hospital.

Silchar Medical College & Hospital covers the areas of complete Barak Valley and is one of the oldest government-run medical college founded in 1968.

At present, the capacity of Silchar Medical College & Hospital is approximately 1100 bedded which is not sufficient to handle the number of patients smoothly. Therefore, the need for a 500 bedded emergency hospital is urgently required.

The project is estimated to be at a cost of Rs. 90 crore and envisages the development of Emergency Wards, well equipped modern Radiology Department, Gynecology Department, Pediatrics Department, Central Lavatory etc.

On 24th October, 2019, tendering process for civil works contractor was initiated.
