BMC floats 2,400 INR-Crore tender for Package-III of Mithi River Development

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated a tender worth an estimated 2,400 INR-Crore for Package-III of the Mithi River Development and Pollution Control Project. This project will be carried out under the Design Build Operate Tender (DBOT) model.

Under Package-III, work will be carried out from CST Bridge to Mahim Causeway, including Vakola River. This includes training of the river, such as constructing a retaining wall and service road, pumping stations, interceptions, and diversion works for diverting dry weather flow from various outfalls/nullahs into nearby existing municipal sewer networks. The project also includes gate pumps, beautification including promenades, and allied works.

Package-III comprises sewer line work of about 8.3 Km, a retaining wall of about 7 Km, service roads of about 6 Km, 25 interceptors, and gate pumps at 25 locations. Additionally, it includes a sewage pumping station and beautification of the river including promenades, among other works.

According to the BMC, Package-I involves providing and laying a sewer line of 1.65 Km length along the banks of the Mithi River from Filter Pada to WSSD garage at Powai. It includes the construction of an influent pumping station, an effluent pumping station, and an 8 MLD STP at WSSD garage. Furthermore, it comprises the construction of service roads along the banks of the Mithi River.

Package-II, covering works from WSSD garage to CST Bridge, is located in the non-tidal influence zone. It includes an 8 Km sewer line along and near the Mithi River and 102 minor interceptors to divert dry weather flow from minor nullahs to the municipal sewer network system. Additionally, Package-II includes the construction of a retaining wall of about 3.3 Km length and a service road of about 9 Km length.

Work under Package-IV comprises the construction of a tunnel for the diversion of intercepted dry weather flow from Bapat Nullah and Safed Pool Nullah to the proposed WwTF at Dharavi.
