On Friday, August 16, the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of two airport projects in West Bengal and Bihar. These are as follows:
New civil enclave in West Bengal:
The Cabinet Committee approved the Airports Authority of India’s proposal to develop a new civil enclave at Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri, West Bengal. The new civil enclave will cost an estimated INR 1,549 Crore. The project includes constructing an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two link taxiways, and multi-level car parking. Moreover, the terminal building will be a Green Building, integrating renewable energy and maximizing natural lighting to minimize its ecological footprint.
Additionally, the project will span approximately 70,390 SqM, designed to accommodate 3,000 peak hour passengers (PHP). It will also have the capacity to handle around 10 Million passengers annually.

New civil enclave in Bihar:
Meanwhile, the new civil enclave at Bihta, Patna, will cost an estimated INR 1,413 Crore. This terminal building at Bihta Airport will cover approximately 66,000 SqM and handle around 3,000 PHP, catering to 50 lakh passengers annually.
The project includes constructing an apron with 10 parking bays suitable for A-321, B-737-800, and A-320 type aircraft, along with two link taxiways. The new civil enclave promises to elevate Bihar’s aviation infrastructure significantly.
The development of these airport projects marks a significant leap forward in India’s aviation infrastructure.
