On Friday, August 16, the Union Cabinet approved three Metro Rail Projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra, with a total estimated cost of INR 30,765 Crore.
The Cabinet has greenlit the following 3 metro projects:
Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase-3: This ambitious project will include two corridors. Corridor-1 will extend 32.15 Km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the Outer Ring Road West, featuring 21 stations. Corridor-2 will cover 12.50 Km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road, with 9 stations. Combined, these two projects will cost an estimated INR 15,611 Crore and become operational by 2029.
Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project: This significant project, with an estimated budget of INR 12,200 Crore, will improve connectivity across Thane. The total length of the corridor is 29 Km (26 Km elevated and 3 Km underground) and includes 22 stations. The ring corridor will encircle the western periphery of Thane, connecting prominent areas like Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada, Hiranandani Estate, and Kolshet. This project is also slated to be operational by 2029.

Pune Metro Phase-1 Extension: The Pune Metro will see an extension running 5.46 Km south from Swargate to Katraj. This extension, known as the Line-I B extension, will cost an estimated INR 2,954.53 Crore. It will feature three underground stations, connecting key areas such as Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar, and Katraj suburbs. The project, overseen by Maha-Metro, will be operational by February 2029. Maha-Metro has already started pre-bid activities and is preparing the tender documents for this exciting metro project.
