The Bhubaneswar Metro Project aims to construct a modern rail-based mass rapid transit system in Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar.

Project Overview:

The Bhubaneswar Metro is a rail-based mass rapid transit system planned by the Government of Odisha. This project aims to provide commuters with safer, faster, and eco-friendly transportation services. The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the state government, has undertaken this initiative.

In Phase 1, the metro will run from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia Square. The 26 km rail line will offer residents a modern and reliable mode of transport. With an estimated project cost of INR 6,256 Crore, the metro will be an entirely elevated corridor, standing 13 meters above ground level. It will comprise 20 stations. The project is expected to be completed within 48 months (4 years) of commencement.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) serves as the general turnkey contractor for the upcoming project. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, laid the foundation stone for this project at Trisulia Square on January 1, 2024. Currently, it is in the contractor tendering process, with bids at the Technical Evaluation Stage.
