Chennai Metro Phase II: CMRL Signs INR 1,063 Crore Contract For Station Construction In Corridor-3

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recently finalized a contract worth INR 1,063 Crore for constructing metro stations in corridor-3 of phase 2. This contract forms part of the funding provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the phase 2 metro rail construction.

Phase II comprises three corridors: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (corridor-3), Light House to Poonamallee (corridor-4), and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (corridor-5). The Chennai metro Phase-II project, spanning 118.1 km, is expected to cost around INR 61,843 Crores.

Corridor-3 traverses the eastern side of the city, connecting suburban areas such as Madhavaram Milk Colony and Old Mahabalipuram Road with core city areas like Chetpet, Nungambakkam, Mylapore, and Adyar. According to a press note from CMRL, M/s Dineshchandra-Soma Joint Venture has signed the contract agreement.
