The Government of India and the Gujarat Government have given in-principle approval for the proposal to develop an SVP Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad. The project envisages the development of an Olympics-standard football stadium and four international-level stadiums.

The Central and the State Governments have given approvals for the basic plan, whereas the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has started issuing tenders for the project.

The proposed SVP Sport Enclave will sprawl across nearly 350 Acres of land parcel along the Sabarmati Riverfront. The scope of work involves the construction of a football stadium with an approximate capacity of 50,000 spectators, two indoor arenas with a capacity to accommodate 18,000 and 10,000 spectators each, an aquatics center having a capacity of 12,000, and a tennis center with 10,000 capacity, training facilities for multiple sports, improving general connectivity and access to ensure long term community benefits.

The master plan also has a reserved space dedicated to developing a vibrant riverfront and temporary venues for future requirements. The proposed facility is not only designed for sports activities but also for business and entertainment events.

GOLYMPIC (Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd) has begun the process of detailed design and implementation for this venture. The construction of the project is anticipated to start by October 2024 and will be completed by October 2027. It will play a pivotal role in India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics and act as a cornerstone in making India a global sporting hub.
