Construction of National Sports University at Imphal, Manipur

Background:

The National Sports University aims at evolving as an institute of advanced study in the field of
physical education and sports science, while also promoting traditional and tribal sports.

Apart from academic programmes and research, the university and its outlying campuses will also impart training to elite athletes, sports officials, referees, and umpires and evolve as centres of excellence in various disciplines of sports.

Proposed Permanent Campus:

The University is presently functional from its temporary campus at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex of Imphal and session for three courses, namely Sports Coaching, Physical Education and Sports Psychology is opened.

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone for the University’s proposed 325-acre campus at Imphal West, on 16th March 2018.

Project Specifications:

The campus is to operate with 1000 students initially and in second phase capacity will be enhanced to at least 2000 students. The Project cost for Phase-I works is Rs. 400 Cr.

The institute would have an Academic Block, Administrative block, Staff Housing, Hostels for (PG&UG), Guest House, Indoor & Outdoor Sports, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Shopping Complex and other allied facilities.
