Dhyey Chag is transforming realty and architecture in Jamnagar. Many architects work on design development and executing buildings. few however, assume the responsibility of being a developer and simultaneously managing the construction management process. Taking a project from the drawing board to the building site requires insight into handling on-site challenges. It also requires providing tailored top-down solutions. Though still in its infancy, Dhyey Chag Architects has always leaned towards formulating a practice that is based on these parameters that are shaping architecture in upcoming cities in India.
Established in 2019, principal designer Dhyey Chag leads the firm Dhyey Chag Architects. Dhyey is an alumnus of School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA), Navrachana University located in Vadodara. He also works as a developer and in-house architect for Chag Builders. This is a construction firm based in Jamnagar for 40 years. Lauded for their neat and timeless work, their work propagates innovative and creative solutions whilst keeping with the business side of project development.
A private garden is provided on each floor adding the green park-type dimension to the spaces as “greens are the new luxury.”
Navigating the real estate sector helped Dhyey redefine his ideology from concept-based ideas to approaches that are practical and user-based. He believes in simple yet thoughtful designs along with innovations in details. He elaborates, “We have a very practical approach towards designing spaces for the user, wherein we use material as a tool which interacts with the spaces and is dictated through detailing.”
The alchemy of architecture in high-rise segments in megacities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad has always powered this practice. Dhyey Chag Architects stands to design buildings that are thus sensitive enough for people to live in. They are also for the economy to sustain. Impressing upon the trends in the real-estate industry, he explains, “The outer skin design and landscape design in real estate projects are something which we focus on and we constantly try to innovate and explore in terms of design in those areas.”
A young architect who understands the dire straits of huge carbon footprints, Dhyey is on a constant drive towards sustainability.
Dhyey Chag Architects also profess exploration in materials while designing interior projects. Talking about his fondness to use wood, he says, “We try to explore the material in terms of its properties.” Further innovating, he highlights one of their interior office designs where in-situ cast concrete tables are used. They employed a nano topping in the flooring and some other furniture.
A young architect who understands the dire straits of huge carbon footprints, Dhyey is thus on a constant drive towards sustainability. “Centroid” was one such project where for designing a commercial building, the existing structure was totally retained thus avoiding any demolition. Fly-ash bricks are used in construction. Design strategies like the use of vertical fins on the south and west façade to cut harsh sunlight helped in saving up on energy as well as creating an interactive façade.
We have a very practical approach towards designing spaces for the user, wherein we use material as a tool which interacts with the spaces and is dictated through detailing.
There are times when client description helps in forming the whole and sole concept for the project. In their project “The Park,” the client just came with an interesting name for the project and Dhyey took the name in its literal sense. A private garden is provided on each floor adding the green park-type dimension to the spaces as “greens are the new luxury.” Terraces thus laid out have an important role as a place of interaction for all the residents in apartment projects. For a holistic community development, they developed a terrace garden with an open-air theatre. Dhyey Chag has worked under Architect Hiren Patel, acquiring diverse knowledge and paramount experience. His practice is therefore based on the purity of an idea in terms of its practicality and application.
