The project proposes the construction of a four-lane access controlled highway from Samarlakota to Achampeta Junction. This is a part of the Kakinada Port to NH16 connectivity in Andhra Pradesh. The project’s execution is in EPC mode under Bharatmala Pariyojana. The total length of the highway to be covered is 12.250 km. This project’s construction work will begin in 2022, and the date of completion is 2024. The entire project comes under the ambit of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

An act of the Parliament, NHAI Act, 1988 set the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) up. The NHAI Act is “An Act to provide for the constitution of an Authority for the development, maintenance, and management of national highways and for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto”. They have entrusted it with the National Highways Development Project, which, along with other minor projects, has vested in it 50,329 kms., of National Highways for development, maintenance, and management. Their aim is to ensure that all contract awards and procurement conform to the best industry practices regarding transparency of process. Other objectives include adopting bid criteria to ensure healthy competition in award of contracts, implementation of projects conform to the best quality requirements and the highway system is maintained to ensure the best user comfort and convenience.
