Haworth, a leading global office furniture manufacturer, plans to establish a new factory in Tamil Nadu, India. The company will invest between $8 and $10 million, which includes the cost of the land. Located near its existing plant in Sriperumbudur, the new facility will be twice the size of the current one, covering an area of 7,000 square meters.

The president of Haworth, Henning Figge, stated that the factory will manufacture furniture for both the domestic market and for export to West Asia and Southeast Asia. Currently, the company’s production in India serves only the local demand, but with the new factory, they aim to increase their workforce, which currently consists of around 250 employees.

Haworth already manufactures in China and India within the Asia-Pacific region and primarily focuses on premium furniture products in the Indian market. Figge mentioned that the Indian market for premium furniture is valued at approximately $300 million and is growing faster than the overall furniture industry. The growth is driven by the increasing importance of offices and the competition for talented employees, leading to higher demand for better workplaces.
