The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to launch the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) program, aimed at enhancing India’s prominent IT hub. The initiative includes large-scale infrastructure projects, such as flyovers, underpasses, and road-widening efforts. These are poised to improve connectivity and tackle the city’s traffic congestion issues.
The H-CITI project, backed by a detailed traffic study from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will carry out 38 projects across seven packages. The total outlay for these projects is estimated at 5,942 INR-Crore. GHMC plans to release tenders for the first phase in February for 16 key projects. These include the construction of 10 flyovers and underpasses across 13.56 Km and 6 major road-widening projects spanning 6.585 Km. Collectively, these projects cover 20.145 Km and are estimated to cost 2,400 INR-Crore.
This phase will mainly focus on transformative infrastructure improvements. These include the construction of grade separators, flyovers, and underpasses to ease congestion at critical intersections. Additionally, Railway Under Bridges (RuBs) and Road Over Bridges (RoBs) will be built to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow. Major roads will undergo widening to accommodate the rising volume of vehicles, while pedestrian-friendly infrastructure will be developed to improve safety and walkability.

Furthermore, tunnel corridors and advanced stormwater drainage systems will be introduced to enhance flood management and ensure long-term road sustainability. These initiatives aim to address current needs and future-proof the city’s infrastructure. To elevate Hyderabad’s road infrastructure, several critical road-widening projects span 6.585 Km, with key expansions planned in high-traffic areas such as Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Check Post, Maharaja, KBR Park, Mugdha, Agrasen, and Cancer Hospital.
Additionally, the city will witness the construction of multi-level flyovers and underpasses stretching 5.82 Km at vital locations. These include Khajaguda (1.52 Km), Serilingampally IIIT (3.25 Km), and Wipro Junction (1.05 Km). These developments are further set to significantly improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and ensure smoother travel across Hyderabad’s busiest zones.

Apart from these major road-widening projects, several other crucial roads in Hyderabad are also set to undergo expansion. These include the 215 Ft road connecting CP Cyberabad Office to Gachibowli (0.985 Km), the 150 Ft road linking Anjaiah Nagar to Ramky Tower Road (0.8 Km), and the 80 Ft road from Azeem Hotel to ChurchGate, extending to Shoaib Hotel and Balapur Road (0.65 Km). The expansion also includes a 60 Ft and 40 Ft road stretching from Lucky Star Hotel to Hafeez Baba Nagar via Phoolbagh (1.2 Km), the 100 Ft road from Tulasi Nagar to Ghouse Nagar (2.5 Km), and a 60 Ft road from Chandrayangutta X Roads to Barkas via Chandrayangutta PS (0.45 Km). These vital expansions will improve connectivity, ease traffic flow, and support the city’s growth.
The Hyderabad H-CITI initiative is a game-changer for the city, positioning it as a model for sustainable urban growth in India. With the first phase set to begin soon, Hyderabad is on track to redefine its infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents.
