IIT Tirupati gets ₹1,074 crore for new campus

The Union Cabinet has sanctioned Rs. 1,074 crore to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tirupati for the construction of its new and permanent campus in Andhra Pradesh.

For developing its Permanent Campus, IIT Tirupati has been allotted a total plot area of 530.11 acres upon which the Phase-I built up area for the development of the project is 3 Million Sq.Ft.

The proposed project involves the construction of Administrative Block, Department Blocks, Convention Center, Library, Common facilities like Guest House, Health center, Bank, Post Office, Shopping center, Community center, Hostels and Faculty & Staff Housing.

It would be developed in two parcels on either side of Yerpedu-Venkatagiri Highway (NH 565) at Merlapaka village of Yerpedu Mandal, Chittoor district. Presently, IIT Tirupati is operating from the temporary campus on Tirupati – Renigunta Road and also the transit campus at Yerpedu. 

As a part of establishing facilities in the Permanent campus, Master Plan has been completed for 12,000 students campus. DPR has already been approved to establish 2500 students campus and is scheduled for completion by 2024 (Phase I construction).

On August 2019, Bid submission process was initiated for civil work on EPC Basis.
