Indian Oil Corporation has announced plans to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant worth INR 1,000 crore, in response to the increasing global demand for eco-friendly aviation fuel to support the industry’s decarbonization efforts.

The plant will be located at the Panipat refinery and will feature LanzaJet’s advanced alcohol-to-jet technology, with an estimated annual production capacity of 88,000 tons of SAF.

The company is actively seeking collaboration with other oil companies to join the project. This state-of-the-art facility will represent a significant breakthrough in India’s efforts to establish a sustainable aviation industry and become the nation’s first-ever SAF plant should it be constructed.
