The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has allocated an estimated INR 6,000 Crore for the construction of the strategic Frontier Highway in Arunachal Pradesh over 11 packages, in a significant move towards enhancing connectivity in border areas. The Frontier Highway (also known as NH-913) will run close to the India-Tibet-China-Myanmar border and will be executed in a phased manner.
This Mega Road Project will be undertaken by three government agencies, including the State Public Works Department (PWD), the Border Road Organisation (BRO), and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). It will be developed as a 1748 km two-lane highway, located approximately 20 km from the international border at several locations and is anticipated to start commencement in April 2024.
On Sunday, February 11, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the estimated sanction of INR 2098.82 Crore for the construction of Package 2 and 3 (Bomdila-Nafra-Lada section) of this project, running approximately 78.3 km. He also announced an estimated sanction of INR 279.91 Crore for the 15.4 km-long Lada-Sarli Section (Package 7). Both sections are to be executed on EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) mode.
The ministry had also sanctioned an estimated INR 3890.45 Crore for the Lada-Sarli section, the Sarli-Huri section, and the Kharsang-Miao-Vijaynagar-Gandhigram section totaling a span of 202.14 Km, on Tuesday, February 06.
The Frontier Highway (NH-913) is anticipated to curb migration and facilitate reverse migration towards the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. It will also connect crucial river basins and facilitate the development of several hydropower projects in the state, added the Road Transport and Highways Minister.
