JICA to construct 5 road projects in Sikkim worth 1,440 INR-Crore

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has committed to building five major road projects in Sikkim. The total estimated cost of these projects is 1,440 INR-Crore. Currently, the teams are conducting site visits to assess the project areas.

The proposed road projects that JICA will undertake in Sikkim are as follows:

  • The 45 Km road from Singtam-Chew Botey-Pache Kahani-Rangpo will be widened and upgraded at an estimated cost of 391 INR-Crore.
  • Widening, upgradation, and carpeting of the 27 Km road from Balguney to Soreng via Gelling and Chakung at an estimated 222 INR-Crore.
  • Widening, upgradation, and carpeting of the 60 Km road along Phamtam-Mangnam-Pokhari-Dhupidara-Labdang-Kongri-Tashiding. The estimated cost of this project is 480 INR-Crore.
  • The 30 Km road from Pangthang-Tintek-Dikchu will be widened, upgraded, and carpeted at an estimated cost of 240 INR-Crore.

Additionally, JICA will construct a two-lane bridge at Jalipool along the Ranipool-Pakyong road. The company will also upgrade the Jalipool to Ranipool road at an estimated cost of 29 INR-Crore. These projects collectively aim to enhance infrastructure and improve connectivity in Sikkim.
