Karnataka Govt approves DPR for Vijayawada and Vizag metro rail projects

The Karnataka Government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Vijayawada Metro Rail Project and given the green light for Phase-I works of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project. 

Phase I metro rail works in Visakhapatnam will cost an estimated 11,498 INR-Crore, excluding land expenses. The plan includes three corridors spanning approximately 46.23 Km. Corridor-1 will stretch from Steel Plant Junction to Kommadi (34.40 Km). Additionally, Corridor-2 will link Gurudwara to the Old Post Office (5.08 Km), and Corridor-3 will connect Tadichetlapalem to Chinna Waltair (6.75 Km).

Furthermore, in Phase II, a fourth corridor will extend from Kommadi to Bhogapuram, covering approximately 30.67 Km. The entire Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project will span around 76.90 Km, with an estimated cost of 14,309 INR-Crore.

Meanwhile, the government has also cleared the DPR for Phase I of the Vijayawada Metro Rail Project for submission to the Center. The first phase will develop Corridors 1A and 1B, spanning around 38.40 Km, with an estimated cost of 11,009 INR-Crore. Corridor 1A will connect Gannavaram to PNBS, while Corridor 1B will link PNBS to Penamaluru. Phase II will later include a third corridor (27.75 Km) connecting PNBS to Amaravati’s Reservoir Station. 

The government has also allocated around 1,152 INR-Crore for land acquisition. These metro rail projects in Karnataka promise to transform urban mobility, reduce congestion, and drive sustainable growth.
