Kumbakonam Railway Station Set for Modern Revamp

Kumbakonam railway station is set for a major revamp, with the Railway Ministry approving the detailed plan with minor modifications. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the new facilities proposed at Kumbakonam station during a video conference on Sunday, June 17.

While reviewing the plan, the Railway Minister selected a new facade for the building. The Southern Railway Construction Organisation, responsible for the revamp, hired a technical consultancy firm to prepare the master plan. The new building will have three floors in the Chola architectural style of Gopuram.

Moreover, the Kumbakonam railway station will include air-conditioned retiring rooms and dormitories, a food court, a tourism and information center, ATMs, and taxi booking counters. In addition, platforms will include benches, drinking water facilities, and aesthetic shelters, ensuring a comfortable experience for travelers. Furthermore, new parking facilities for two-wheelers and cars will be created. And a dedicated art gallery, the Vivekananda Memorial Art Gallery, will be built inside the Kumbakonam Railway Station.
