The Maharashtra state cabinet on Tuesday, April 22, gave the green light for upgrading the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur stretch of the national highway in Pune district. The estimated cost of this project is 6,499.22 INR-Crore.
The plan includes building a four-lane elevated road and a four-lane at-grade road from Talegaon to Chakan. Additionally, officials will construct a six-lane road from Chakan to Shikrapur. This 53.2 Km corridor will link NH 48 with NH 753. Currently, the existing two-lane road handles over 40,800 passenger car units each day. Therefore, the government will widen the road to manage the growing traffic flow more efficiently.

Authorities have already prepared the DPR and passed it on to the Maharashtra State Industrial Development Corporation for execution. Moreover, the new highway will ease congestion and improve direct links to national highways, state roads, and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
