Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for the new Secretariat building at Umsawli in New Shillong on Tuesday, January 21. This milestone marks a significant step toward the city’s transformation.
The upcoming secretariat building will rise on a 53 Acres plot, with an estimated cost of 1,188 INR-Crore. The project, divided into two phases, will include a Secretariat and Directorate campus in the New Shillong administrative township. Additionally, the complex will house 68 offices, a grand 700-person auditorium, and facilities for 1,829 staff members.

Furthermore, the government has already committed an estimated 5,500 INR-Crore to New Shillong, with plans for an additional 10,000 INR-Crore investment. These massive investments aim to completely reshape the region.
