The Odisha Legislative Assembly has planned to develop multi-storey buildings for its legislators by demolishing a part of the existing MLA quarters. According to speaker Surya Narayan Patro over Rs. 400 crore would be spent for the development of the vertical structures.

“The new building complex will have modern facilities for legislators like community hall, kalyan mandap, multi-gym, space for morning walk and commercial establishments. It has been decided to demolish a portion of the present MLA quarters to develop the multi-storey building,” said Patro.

Official sources in the state works department have said that nearly 150 flats of type-VII category will be constructed as part of the high-rise building project. Moreover, the quarters along the Gopabandhu Marg will be demolished for the new housing project.

Each apartment will be developed over an area of over 2400 sq/ft with facilities like an office room, drawing room, dining, family lounge, a master bedroom with two other bedrooms, a kitchen, storage space and balcony.

The state works department will launch the project once the assembly secretariat would vacate the space. The housing project is expected to be completed within two years.
