Nitin Gadkari Announces Mega Infrastructure Projects Worth Over INR 8,000 Crore for Odisha

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday, May 9, unveiled infrastructure plans for Odisha during a public meeting in Puri district. These projects, with a combined estimated investment of INR 8,000 Crore, are poised to transform Odisha’s transportation network. Moreover, these will contribute to the state’s overall development. Here are the key highlights:

111 Km-long, 6-lane Ring Road in Bhubaneswar: Construction work on this greenfield highway ring road is set to commence in October 2024. The estimated cost for this project is INR 6,500 Crore. Upon completion, the Ring Road will significantly benefit the residents of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khurda by reducing commute times by nearly an hour and a half.

35 Km-long, 4-lane greenfield Ring Road in Sambalpur: This project, also scheduled to begin construction in October 2024, aims to alleviate traffic congestion from Rourkela to Cuttack. The estimated cost for this project is INR 1,333 Crore.

Airport in Paradip: The decision to establish an airport in Paradip has been finalized, at an estimated cost of INR 200 crore. This move is expected to further enhance connectivity and boost economic development in the region.

Additionally, Nitin Gadkari expressed his commitment to boosting Odisha’s fishery production by 7-8 times, which will substantially benefit local fishermen.
