Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, on Friday, November 14, announced the allocation of 1338.61 INR-Crores towards the widening of NH-17 in Assam. The project falls under Package 2 of road widening.
The scope of work involves widening NH-17 into a 4-lane road with paved shoulders spanning 26.82 km. The proposed widening project will span from Mowatari (before Chapar Bypass) to the Tulungia section of the Bilasipara-Guwahati corridor.

The project aims to enhance connectivity between Bilasipara and Tulungia, forming an integral part of the Bilasipara-Guwahati corridor. It will also foster connectivity to neighbouring states like Meghalaya and West Bengal.
