Nitin Gadkari launches 28 NH projects worth INR 6,600 Crore in Odisha

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 28 National Highway projects worth a combined estimated INR 6,600 Crore in Odisha on Thursday, February 15. The projects that were inaugurated include:

  • 70 Km 4-lane road connecting Baharagora with Singhara on NH-49 worth INR 1,203 Crore.
  • 78 Km 6-lane road between Chandikhol and Bhadrak on NH-16 worth INR 2,035 Crore.

The Union Minister added that the total length of highways in Odisha has increased substantially from 4,639 Km to 5,753 Km since 2024 with an allocated amount of nearly INR 1.50 Lakh-Crore. He also stated that currently, National Highway projects worth an aggregate of INR 22,000 crore, spanning 1,312 Km are underway and are anticipated to be completed during FY2024-25.

Additionally, the government is working on preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for road infrastructure projects spanning 746 Km with a total estimated cost of INR 60,000 Crore. One of the crucial projects under planning includes the 111 Km greenfield ring road project around Bhubaneswar. The project will see an investment of approximately INR 6,253 Crore and will be developed in two packages.

Package I involves the construction of a 71 Km road running from Rameswar to Govindpur at INR 4,426 Crore, whereas Package II includes developing a 40 Km road between Govindpur and Tangi worth INR 2,287 Crore.

Moreover, Nitin Gadkari also announced a 35 Km greenfield ring road project to be constructed in Sambalpur worth an estimated INR 1,333 Crore. The work on this project is expected to start in October 2024.
